For the places you choose to support

XPay

Local choices. Thoughtful rewards.

XPay is designed to connect international visitors with stores offering reusable options, lower-waste practices and local goods, with rewards set by each store.

First pilot planned in Shibuya

How it works

A good place to visit.
A reason to return.

  1. Find a store

Find stores with reusable options, lower-waste practices or local goods, and check what each store offers.

  2. Visit the store

Check the offer conditions and pay through the store's existing payment service. An XPay pass could help confirm your visit.

  3. Receive a reward

An eligible purchase or visit could earn a reward chosen by the store, such as a discount or a small extra.

For example: A cafe could offer a drink upgrade when you bring your own cup and make an eligible purchase.

For merchants

Introduce your store to international visitors.

XPay would help international visitors discover what your store offers, from locally made goods to reusable bags and ways to use less packaging.

  • Store profile

Show visitors the reusable options, lower-waste practices and local goods your store offers.

  • Store rewards

Choose an offer that suits your business, with conditions you set.

  • Existing payments

The proposed pilot would work alongside your existing payment service.

The first pilot

Shaping the first pilot in Shibuya.

Visitors, independent stores and places to explore are close together in Shibuya. It is the planned starting point for a model intended for other cities in Japan and, later, abroad.

A first pilot would test whether clearer store information helps visitors choose where to go, and whether stores can offer rewards with manageable day-to-day effort.

Individual conversation

We're inviting Shibuya stores to share their current practices and what they would want from a pilot.

Questions about the pilot

What does expressing interest involve?

An individual conversation about your store, its current practices and what interests you about XPay. This helps shape the pilot; it is not an application review or a commitment to participate.

Can visitors use XPay today?

Not yet. Pilot timing, offers, eligibility and confirmation methods have not been set. We're welcoming merchant interest and feedback to help shape the first pilot.

Is XPay a payment service?

The proposed model focuses on finding stores and receiving rewards. Payments would be handled by the store's existing payment provider. Any payment or loyalty integration would depend on a future partner arrangement.

Will XPay be limited to Shibuya?

Shibuya is the planned starting point, not the limit of the service. A first pilot would help assess whether the model could work in other parts of Japan and, later, other countries. No wider rollout has been scheduled.

Will there be impact or carbon offset records?

Optional environmental, local contribution or carbon offset records may be explored later, where suitable partners can provide supporting evidence. They are not a condition of using the proposed rewards service, and no offset or environmental certification is being offered today.
